  9.  AB    OBJECTIVES: To review the role and activities of Positive and Living
  10.        Squad (PALS) group of persons living with AIDS at Kara Counselling and
  11.        Training Trust between August 1991 and August 1992. METHODS:
  12.        Interpersonal Discussion and Review of Activity and progress reports.
  13.        RESULTS: a) Involvement and participation of PLWAs in AIDS activities is
  14.        necessary--it gives a human face to the mystic nature of HIV/AIDS. b)
  15.        Over one hundred organisations and 15000 persons reached through focused
  16.        and systematically sustainable community education interventions. c)
  17.        PLWAs play a leading role in the process of destigmatization of AIDS at
  18.        community level. DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION: The subjects' efforts are not
  19.        only remarkable but challenging too. This shows that there is a need for
  20.        more persons with HIV/AIDS to come out in the open and take a leading
  21.        role in activities for AIDS prevention. The cardinal question though is
  22.        how to facilitate this process of change.
